So I got Covid ! Day 1

I am writing this a day later, but here goes.

Yesterday started out as any normal day, flogging myself physically, before settling into my work day, then chilling in the evening. In the morning I noticed during a Zwift ride that I was feeling a little down on energy. But, like you do, I dug deep and got the job done. Later that afternoon I was a bit achy, however I put that down to over exertion earlier, and just got on with it. By early evening I was really starting to feel a bit more lethargic, and had an infrequent dry cough, and a slight shortness of breath. Expecting a shopping delivery, I made the decision not to get anywhere near the driver, and instead waited inside for Ann to bring the crates in. Turns out that was a good idea.

By the time bed time came around, which was much earlier than usual, I was ready to hit the sack. Breathing a bit shallow, heart rate up a bit, to the point I was aware of it constantly. I have a pretty low resting heart rate, so any increase is generally noticable for me when I am resting or trying to sleep. At around 4am I woke up, uncomfortable, hot, and restless. Nothing drastic, but I downed a couple of paracetamol to settle things.

This morning I woke up, and definitely felt rough. Chest sore and tight, a little sniffle, hotter than I like to be, and resting heart rate had shot up about 10% (5bpm). Interestingly, for a nerd like me, my Garmin data tracked true, and showed stress levels up, recovery levels down, and RHR up too. All very clever. At this point however I thought it could just be a little bug. So I carried on with my morning routine, and got ready to go out for a walk. Just to be safe, I decided to take an LFT before going out into the wild, and within 5 mins of starting the test, the line had appeared.. It's Covid !

I have never had a positive reading in all the time I have been testing, not even a false, but to be sure I took another, from a different batch, and sure enough, positive.  Damnit!

Now a year ago, and definitely before I would have been seriously worried about what was going to come next. Having had friends die from Covid, it's a scary thing, but positive head on here. Double jabbed, and boosted, pretty fit these days, and mild symptoms, it's all good.

As the day went on, I did all the necessary notifications, questionnaires etc, and then made sure I had plenty of fluids. I did notice I was not too interested in food, but still eating enough. Throughout the day my body battery took a dive (Garmin thing), my energy levels went with it, and my breathing stayed shallow. So not to go completely crazy I decided I would have a walk on the treadmill. This of course turned into short running intervals, which turned into a 5k... Like ya do! But it was nice to have a baseline of how I was physically. HR didn't get silly high, was no more breathless than running with a cold, so all was OK.

Thinking I wanted lots of comfort food, I made an order on Woosh, all of which is still just sitting there untouched at the moment. By early evening I can honestly say my interest in food has faded. That said Ann suggested getting a pizza, and for a moment my hunger returned. Needless to day I have a lot of cold pizza for lunch tomorrow.

So far I have taste and smell still. My breathing is a little tight, but SATS are good at 98. A little sniffle, a bit warm, and achy eyeballs, same as I get with flu. Definitely under the weather, all the hallmarks of Covid.

Nightnurse awaits, and see if I can sleep tonight.

Running outdoors resumed today.

Wow that was lovely to get back out there on two feet and see what my body had left in it. I was a little concerned about running, but I needn't have been.  Starting out nice and gently, with a simple, flat 5k being the goal, I felt better than expected from the off. Setting out a little faster than planned, I eventually just settled into a 10.15min/mile average and kept it there. Giving things a chance to warm up a bit, inc my body as it was a bit chillier than I thought! Much to my surprise my lungs were fine, breathing wasn't a struggle in any way, and my HR remained under control, falling nicely after any inclines.  One thing I did notice throughout the day post run was a cough. Not bad, nothing serious, but more frequent that it has been for the past few days. That said, its productive, so that's a good thing. Clearing that chest up nicely now. Oh and sore legs! Still achy this evening, after such a short run, haha!  So that's me, let's see how I feel in the mo...

Freedom Day!

Where do I start! OK Day 11 I guess, no post for yesterday as nothing much happened, other than me over cooking it a bit on a Zwift ride. Body battery died a death, and recovery for today wasn't ideal. Day 11 test was of course positive, but taking a lot longer to show. So, today, Freedom Day! Of course taking all the advice into account, reading the various interpretations of what it all meant, and even throwing a poll on to Twitter to see what others would do. The section of information in question here is the advice for still testing positive after 10 days. It reads..  " What if I’m still testing positive after 10 days? You may leave self-isolation after your 10th full day of self-isolation even if you are still testing positive. The only exception to this is if you still have a high temperature, or are still feeling unwell. If you only have a cough or your sense of smell or taste remains affected, you can leave isolatio n." Obviously, other than a bit of fatigue when ...

Covid Isolation - Day 10 - Mixed results.

A day off work today, originally booked for an appointment, but obviously I can't attend anything right now. So I am making the most of it and having a rest from as much as possible. Not a bed nights sleep, but definitely more lethargic in the mornings, possibly due to knowing I can't go out and do anything, rather than not having any energy. Had a bit of a sore knee when I got up, so decided todays activity should be low impact. So I went for a 1 hour treadmill walk instead. Slowly increasing the speed. Felt nice and low impact. Then of course we moved onto the test. Day 10 LFT, still hoping (I'm joking) for early release. Within a few mins of starting the test, the positive line was starting to show. Ann meanwhile had also tested but was showing as negative. This is from one of the newer kits we have, which is nose and throat swabs. Between us we have four sets of tests, two each of nose only, and nose and throat ones. I had used an older nose only. So out of ...
